Starting a small business is both exciting and terrifying at the same time. You dream of sharing the product you developed and are passionate about with everyone and hope they love it just as much as you do. Then you realize who the competition is: Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target and wonder if you can ever get noticed. They have warehouses full of computer servers and teams of Harvard business graduates. You have a laptop and Christy Wright's book on starting a small business. So how has my little Mink Lash Love business made any progress at all? I believe it has been by gaining the trust of customers one at a time. Short term gains can be made through manipulation but long term growth can only come by gaining the trust of everyone you work with. Customers who trust that you have put all your efforts into producing the best quality product, trust that you are charging a fair price, and trust that you will go out of your way to provide the best customer service are the ones who will come back and purchase again and tell their friends about you.
